Thermodynamic properties of helium
In this monograph the authors review data on the thermodynamic properties of helium up to 1982 inclusive. Although there is a large amount of information on helium, these data are not uniformly distributed across the range of parameter values. The thermal properties of helium have not been studied in adequate detail. This hampers the formulation of an equation of state and does not allow the accuracy of the calculated values of thermal properties to be determined by comparison with experiment. The probable random errors in the tabulated values of the thermodynamic functions were determined with the help of a set of equations of state that describe the rho, ..nu.., T data with equivalent precision. Values of thermodynamic functions calculated from the equation of state of He/sup 4/ have been compared with experiment, and this has led to an equation of acceptable precision. They have used this equation to calculate the thermodynamic properties of He/sup 4/ between the lambda-point and 1500 K for pressures up to 100 MPa. They cover a greater range of parameter values and tabulated functions than other publications and indicate the precision of these results. This monograph is one of a series of handbooks on the thermal properties of technologically important gases and liquids. It correlates and generalizes investigations of the properties of helium carried out at the Moscow Power Institute, the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineering, and the All-Union Science Research Center of the USSR State Committee for Standards.
