Title: Isomerizates as components of unleaded gasoline

This paper is concerned with the elimination of harmful emissions to the atomosphere caused by the use of tetraethyllead (TEL) in automotive gasoline, since afterburning of the exhaust gas on platinum catalysts is impossible when leaded gasoline is used. The processes of isomerization and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) production is examined. A table shows the hydrocarbon composition of a hexane cut and the products from low-temperature isomerization of this cut in a pilot unit at the All-Union Scientific-Research Institute of Petrochemical Processes. Samples of AI-93 unleaded gasoline were blended in order to determine the optimal composition. The sulfur contents and acidities of these samples are far below the specification limits. The use of isomerizates as automative gasoline components offers a means for expanding the resources of unleaded automotive gasolines.
