Title: Enhancing the use of coals by gas reburning-sorbent injection: Quarterly report No. 1 for the period June 5, 1987-August 31, 1987

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5699352

The objective of this project is to demonstrate gas reburning-sorbent injection (GR-SI) emission control technology on three pre-NSPS coal fired utility boilers in Illinois. The goals are to achieve NO/sub x/ and SO/sub x/ emission reductions of 60 and 50%, respectively. Work on Phase 1 of the program, Design and Permitting, commenced on June 5, 1987. During this quarter, work focused on project planning and organization, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review and preliminary process designs of GR-SI for the three host units and three alternate sites. Kickoff meetings and a project inauguration were held with the funding participants and host utilities. DOE comments on the Environmental Information Volume (EIV) were received and the data necessary for the revised EIV were compiled. The analysis of the three host units confirmed that the NO/sub x/ and SO/sub x/ emission goals should be achievable.
