Oversight of the management of the US Synthetic Fuels Corporation. Hearings before the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management of the Committee on Governmental Affairs, United States Senate, Ninety-Eighth Congress, First Session, July 27 and 29, 1983
Edward E. Noble, chairman of the US Synthetic Fuels Corporation (SFC) led a list of 13 witnesses in a two-day hearing to review the SFC's management in terms of its mission and accomplishments at the end of phase one. Concerns center on alleged extravagance and polarization on the part of board members. Of interest to the committee, however, were issues of fiscal planning, contracting procedures, communications, decision making, and other management practices. Noble and others from the SFC described recent administrative improvements, but industry spokesmen were generally critical. An outside consultant proposed recommendations to improve the SFC's effectiveness. Additional material submitted for the record from SFC, the media, Congress, and other sources follows the testimony.
