Testimony by 12 witnesses, including public health officials, Air Force personnel, private citizens, and other state and federal officials evaluated hazardous waste management at Tinker Air Force Base. The field hearing in Midwest City, Oklahoma continued a focus on defense facilities, where the disposal of heavy metals and volatile organic chemicals introduces potential health hazards through the contamination of ground water. Superfund money is not available to the Department of Defense, which uses the four-phase Installation Restoration Program (IRP) to identify and clean up hazardous sites. The Tinker base was selected for the hearing because recharging of a major ground water aquifer occurs at the site. Additional letters, statements, and other documents submitted for the record follow the testimony.
