Title: The Central Basin Pipeline: A CO/sub 2/ system in West Texas

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5512863

The Central Basin Pipeline receives carbon dioxide (CO/sub 2/) from the Bravo, Cortez and Sheep Mountain Pipelines in Yoakum and Gaines Counties in West Texas and transports it south through Andrews, Ector and Crane Counties. The pipeline extends from Denver City to McCamey, Texas. Initially, pump stations are not required. When volume increases to 725 MMSCFD, one booster station will be necessary. The second will be required at 1,050 MMSCFD and the third at 1,275 MMSCFD. The CBPL System operations, maintenance and dispatching are provided from field offices located in Midland and Odessa, TX. Management, marketing and technical support staff are located in Houston, TX; with Corporate headquarters in Omaha, NE. In summary, the CBPL is not a standard pipeline. The unique CO/sub 2/ commodity requires high pressures with special design and operating features for safe and cost effective pipeline transportation. CO/sub 2/ pipeline technology is still developing, and while several major projects have been constructed over the past 2 to 3 years each new project such as CBPL breaks new ground.
