A preliminary design of a prototype anthracite culm combustion boiler was initiated under the DOE Contract ET-78-C-01-3269. The prototype boiler is being designed to generate 20,000 pounds per hour of 150 psig saturated steam using low Btu (4,000 Btu per pound) anthracite culm as a fuel. This boiler will be located at the industrial park of the Shamokin Area Industrial Corporation. This program is directed at demonstrating the commercial viability of anthracite culm fueled FBC steam generation systems.
