High-speed rail technology (Las Vegas, NV-Ontario, CA). Hearing before the Subcommittee on Transportation, Aviation, and Materials of the Committee on Science and Technology, House of Representatives, Ninety-Ninth Congress, Second Session, January 9, 1986
At a field hearing in Las Vegas, Nevada, witnesses from Las Vegas and Ontario, California reported on the plans for a high-speed levitated train to improve both congestion and pollution problems between the two cities. The witnesses described the technology as already proven in Japan and France, while financial and institutional problems remain. They explored the federal government's role in helping to attract investment to the project to finance the infrastructure a new transportation system requires. A local resident objected to the use of taxpayers' money for this project when the most pressing need is for intra-urban systems. An appendix with additional statements submitted for the record follows the testimony of seven witnesses.
