Chloroaromatic compounds are toxic, released in large quantities and accumulate in sediments and biota. Bacterial degradation is the main natural removal mechanism. Alcaligenes strains are are able to degrade a variety of these compounds, however little is known about the abilities of these strains to degrade such compounds in industrial effluents. This study assesses the ability of A. eutrophus JMP 134(pJP4) to degrade 2,4-D, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) or chlorophenol mixtures in BKME microcosms. 36 refs., 2 figs., 4 tabs.
