Title: Increasing operational reliability of PK-40-1 boilers

Journal Article · · Sov. Power Eng. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

The formation of secondary deposits on the front coils of the shield steam superheater of a PK-40-1 boiler is not associated with selective precipitation of any components of volatile ash, but is explained by adherence of soft particles on the surface of tubes in the zone of high temperatures of the gas stream (1190-1250/sup 0/C - as a function of fuel quality). A change in operational factors within the operational range does not lead to significant reduction in gas temperature in the top of the furnace. A source of accumulation in the ''dam'' and convection steam superheater (CSS) of caking deposits is the shield, located in the rotary gas line above the horizontal area of the ''dam''. During prolonged operation of the boiler at nominal load a thin layer of primary deposits forms on the CSS, characterized by a different chemical composition than that of volatile ash and the secondary deposits. The deposits are not removed by the existing cleaning methods used in the boiler. However, the surfaces are spontaneously cleaned completely during brief shutdown of the boiler. To prevent slagging of the CSS the temperature of the gases in front of the surface, taking into account the temperature distribution along the cross section, should not exceed 900-920/sup 0/C. The average cross sectional temperature of the gases in front of the convective steam superheater of a PK-40-1 boiler was 940-1045/sup 0/C during combustion of a wide range of Kuznetsk coals. To remove friable deposits from the shields and ''dam'' of PK-40-1 boilers the optimum cleaning variant is the pneumatic pulse installation of UralVTI.
