MIS/SIS solar cells are generally more attractive than diffused cells because of their higher efficiency and low temperature fabrication process, but to make them economically competitive, their efficiency must be enhanced. MIS grating cells with an SiO/sub 2/ or TiO/sub 2/ dielectric layer, MIS-TiO/sub 2/ grating cells with back surface field (BSF), and MIS-TiO/sub 2/ grating cells on polycrystalline silicon have been studied. Short circuit current, open circuit voltage, fill-factor and efficiency have been calculated. The advantages and problems of MIS structures are discussed.
