Title: Gas chromatographic determination of carbon oxide and hydrocarbon microconcentrations in atmospheric air

Journal Article · · Ind. Lab. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5269351

This article describes methods of gas-chromatograph determination of carbon oxides and aliphatic (C/sub 1/-C/sub 10/) and aromatic (C/sub 6/-C/sub 8/) hydrocarbons. The objective is to perfect a gas chromatograph diagram in order to determine microquantities of carbon oxides and hydrocarbons in atmospheric air in one instrument. The LKhM-8ML chromatograph, equipped with a flame-ionization detector and two evaporators, is used. The sensitivity of the determination is 0.5 mg/m/sup 3/ (for a 400 ml sample volume). The carbon oxides and hydrocarbons are detected independently by two detectors, the katharometer and the flame-ionization detector, which are on the roof of the column thermostat of the chromatograph. The described gas line components do not require any instrument conversions of serially produced chromatographs, and they permit the express determination of hydrocarbons and carbon oxides in atmospheric air on one device for public health check of atmospheric pollution by these harmful substances.
