Interference of identical particles emitted by sources of various sizes

Recently many papers have been appearing on the interference of identical ..pi.. mesons. An interference effect is observed in every case, but its magnitude is sometimes much smaller than expected. Several natural possibilities for explaining this phenomenon are analyzed in the present paper. In particular, it must occur if the identical ..pi.. mesons are produced by sources of very different sizes. Processes are considered in which there is an interference also for nonidentical ..pi.. mesons.
