Spontaneously broken N = 8 supergravity model in four dimensions by generalized dimensional reduction of the massless N = 8 supergravity model in five dimensions was obtained. The mass dependent one-loop ultraviolet divergences of various tadpole and self-energy graphs cancel was shown. The one-loop ultraviolet divergences of antisymmetric tensor fields A/sub ..mu.. nu/ coupled to gravity was calculated. The counterterms for coupling A/sub ..mu.. nu rho/ to gravity are on-shell zero, while the coupling of A/sub ..mu.. nu/ or A/sub ..mu.. nu rho/ and a scalar phi to gravity are equal to those for the coupling of a scalar phi to gravity was found. A complete set of spin projection operators for the vierbein e/sub ..mu..//sup a/ and the spin connection ..omega../sub ..mu..//sup ab/ and analyze the particle content of a class of R + R/sup 2/ type actions was constructed. A new class of such actions which are ghost- and tachyon-free and propagate, in addition to the massless gravition, a massive torsion with J/sup P/ less than or equal to 2 or massless torsion with J/sup P/ = 1- was found. The two- and three-point functions of the globally supersymmetric massive Wess-Zumino model at the two-loop level by means of ordinary dimensional regularization was calculated. They satisfy the supersymmetry Ward identities despite the fact that the ordinary dimensional regularization scheme has the drawback in the case of the supersymmetric theories because the fermionic and bosonic degrees of freedom are in general not equal at dimensions different from four.
