Title: Effect of heavy metals on the activity and selectivity of zeolite FCC catalysts: poisoning of FCC catalysts and zeolite by nickel and vanadium

Journal Article · · Int. Chem. Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5205733

The poisoning of FCC catalysts by nickel and vanadium was investigated. Impregnation of catalysts with up to about 10,000 ppm nickel was found to produce very little reduction in the activity for cracking VGO, but resulted in a considerable formation of coke and hydrogen due to dehydrogenation by the nickel. Vanadium reduced both the yield of gasoline and the activity significantly. The structure of zeolite in vanadium-impregnated catalysts was found to be largely destroyed by steam treatment at temperatures equal or above 700/sup 0/C. Na ions in the zeolite were found to accelerate the poisoning effect of vanadium.
