Method and apparatus for installation of an offshore platform
This patent describes apparatus for use in lowering and connecting the lower end of downwardly-depending legs of an offshore platform structure to the upper end of upwardly-directed leg supports of a substructure. The connection means apparatus consists of: a leg-receiving receptacle having an open top and a chamber defined downwardly therein formed at the upper end of the substructure leg supports, closure means formed at the lower end of each of the receptacle chambers, a selected mass of a particulate material positioned in the lower portion of each receptacle chamber, drain means connected in fluid communications with the lower portion of the receptacle chamber of a size and location to allow a selective amount of the particulate material to be drained evenly from the receptacle chamber, valve means in the drain means to control the draining of the particulate material from the receptacle chamber, and a selected mass of resilient material means positioned in the upper portion of each receptacle chamber and carried by the particulate material.
