Strong absorption and noneikonal effects in antiproton--nucleus scattering
In connection with the successful description of the low- and medium-energy antiproton--nucleus interaction within the framework of the Glauber-Sitenko theory we consider the role of strong absorption in these processes. On the basis of an analytic method of calculations we study the connection between the eikonal scattering amplitude, the total cross section, and the reaction cross section with the model of a black nucleus with diffuse boundary. We present examples showing how the effective radius of the black nucleus for the antiprotons is determined in terms of geometrical parameters of the nuclear density and of the parameters of the elementary p-barN scattering amplitude. We show that the noneikonal corrections to the imaginary part of the scattering amplitude and to the reaction cross section are small under the conditions of strong absorption. The angular range in which the noneikonal corrections to the real part of the antiproton--nucleus scattering amplitude could manifest themselves is discussed.
