El Paso Natural Gas Co. (EPNG) is a pioneer in operating a major natural gas pipeline system with gas supplies in huge volumes that must have treatment and be processed. Some 50,000 wells feed into the EPNG system. Many of these wells are basically oil wells that produce volumes of natural gas in association with crude oil. So, this company has shown the gas industry the way in operating a major pipeline system with significant volumes of residue, wet and/or sour gas in its supply. In the EPNG's Permian division, 2 specific plants, the Waha Treating and Dehydration Plant and Jal Plant No. 4, a major gas processing facility, are described. In this division, the company operates 18 treating plants and 9 gasoline extraction plants. Treatment facilities have a design capacity of 2.568 BNcfd not including small and/or portable treaters. Permian division processing plants have a total capacity of 987 MMcfd which can cover 1,225 MM gal of NGL per day. Telemetering, dispatching, and communications in the Permian division are accomplished with 43 microwave stations operating over 14,000 channel miles of MW circuits; 11 VHF base stations; 243 mobile VHF stations; and 75 miles of EPNG owned wireline.
