Title: Case history of the Tiehchenshan gas field, Taiwan, China

Journal Article · · United National Mineral Resources Develop. Ser.; (United States)

The Tiehchenshan gas field is located about 100 km southwest of Taipei. This field is situated on the westernmost structure belt in the foothills region of W. Taiwan. The foothills region, about 40 km wide, is bounded on the east by the E. margin of the Miocene sediments in fault contact with the older indurated Paleogene sediments of the Central Range. The field is the largest gas field so far discovered in Taiwan. The gas reservoir producing at present is the quartz sandstone intercalated in the Talu Shale of middle Miocene age, above which no oil or gas has been found. Oil and gas showings were encountered in the sandstone beds of the middle and lower Miocene formations below the producing zone, but no commercial production has resulted so far from these deeper zones. The 10 wells completed in the Tiehchenshan gas field all produce natural gas and condensate. With every 10,000 cu m of natural gas 1.3 kiloliters of condensate is produced.
