Title: Cogeneration system with recuperated gas turbine engine

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5115868

This patent describes a recuperated turbine engine including a combustion chamber having means supplying fuel thereto. It comprises a compressor for supplying compressed air to the combustion chamber; a turbine rotatable about a central axis for extracting energy from the gases produced in the combustion chamber; a recuperator for preheating the compressed air from the compressor prior to entry into the combustion chamber; and exhaust means for expelling air and gases from the engine. This paper describes improvement in a first series of fluidly communicating, longitudinally spaced apart, generally annular chambers surrounding the engine for conveying low temperature air from the compressor to the combustion chamber; a second series of fluidly communicating, longitudinally spaced apart, generally annular chambers series of fluidly communicating, longitudinally spaced apart, generally annular chambers, located between adjacent chambers in the first series of chambers, for conveying high temperature air and gases from the turbine to the exhaust means; and a generally annular primary heat exchange surface located between the first series of generally annular chambers and the second series of generally annular chambers, for transferring heat therebetween.
