The U.S. Department of Energy`s Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) issued a Notice of Inquiry (NOI) on May 25 requesting comments regarding the continued storage of spent nuclear fuel at reactor sites beyond 1998. The NOI follows the suggestion made in an April 1, 1993, letter from the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners to Energy Secretary Hazel O`Leary, proposing that a collaborative dialogue be initiated to identify and develop constructive recommendations for consideration in evaluating alternatives for interim spend nuclear fuel storage.
