Title: Revolutionary software for seismic analysis

Journal Article · · World Oil
OSTI ID:483881

Traditional interpretation tools, and powerful volume attribute and stratigraphic analysis capabilities enable geoscientists from all disciplines to relate seismic information to the earth models on which they are working. Conventional seismic interpretation software has proved less than satisfactory in fulfilling the strategic role of seismic stratigraphy in modern E and P activities. 3-D seismic data provides geoscientists with a high-resolution picture of the subsurface, and allows them to delineate both large and subtle anomalies in geometrical and physical property variations at considerable depths. While many new attribute calculation techniques have been introduced by software vendors, no analysis or interpretation software has accompanied these novelties to allow geoscientists to make meaningful use of new information at their disposal. Stratimagic (incorporating SISMAGE technologies developed by Elf Aquitaine) offers all the tools to both analyze anomalous features and perform the appropriate interpretation. Using the most advanced object-oriented technologies to support interactivity and multi-mode representation, this software offers a new approach to user interface concepts. It makes sophisticated technology accessible to a wide spectrum of occasional and expert users alike. The main hardware platform for this product is Sun Microsystems, running the Solaris 2.5 operating system. All graphics are based on standard X-Window, including the voxel cube, but Stratimagic can also be operated on servers using remote X display systems.
