Title: METHOD AND MEANS OF MEASURING RADIATION TRI-DIRECTIONALLY

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4790817

A method is outiined for determining the extent of energy or dose absorbed by a body or object when impinged by radiation. A mold is made of the object and two phantoms with equivalent geometry and tissue equivalent are made with an agar gel containing a chemical system for indicating dose absorption by optical density changes, e.g., potassium iodide or trichloroethylene with a color indicator. One phantom is irradiated and both phantoms are then sliced in planes normal to the direction of the irradiating beam. Optical density readings are made with a microphotometer on corresponding slices of both phantoms and the difference taken as a measure of the dose. (D.L.C.)
