GIS flood modeling as an aid in wetlands management
- Environmental Research Institute of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI (United States); and others
A project was conducted to demonstrate the acquisition of data and information resources from federal and state agency providers for integrated analysis with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to evaluate wetlands management strategies in a region adjacent to the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (RBNERR), in south Florida. Many regional and state agencies are concerned with restoring the natural surface water flow of this region in order to preserve the fragile estuary and headwaters of Rookery Bay and other coastal estuaries along the Florida coast. This project was sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the purpose of demonstrating how improvements to data access and analysis capabilities will enable coastal resource managers to produce improved information about characteristics and processes of coastal environments.
