FORMATION OF At$sup 209$ AND At$sup 207$ ISOTOPES IN THE BOMBARDMENT OF Bi AND Pb WITH HIGH-ENERGY PROTONS (in Russian)
The yields are determined for the isotopes At/sup 209/ and At/sup 207/ with respect to the yield of At/sup 211/ in the bombardment of bismuth and lead with protons of energy 120 to 660 Mev. Separation of the astatine was conducted chemically, while the relative yields were established from alpha -particle spectra measured by means of a grid ionization chamber. The ratios of yields of At/sup 209/ and At/sup 211/ under irradiation of bismuth by 120 and 660 Mev protons were 0.64 plus or minus 0.06 and 0.72 plus or minus 0.06, respectively, whereas the ratios of yields of At/sup 207/ and At/sup 211/ are 0.30 plus or minus 0.03 and 0.51 plus or minus 0.04. Bombardment of lead with 200 and 660 Mev protons and also with 400 Mev deuterons gave ratios of yields of At/sup 209/ and At/sup 211/ of 1.31 plus or minus yields of At/sup 207/ and At/sup 211/ are 0.28 plus or minus 0.07; 0.61 plus or minus 0.13, and 0.52 plus or minus 0.15. The formation of the foregoing isotopes of astatine is regarded as the resultant of secondary capture reactions of superbarrier nuclei He/sup 3/, He/sup 4/, and Li obtained in multiple interactions of nucleons at high energies.
