The nucleus of a group to study the problems relating to food irradiation was established at the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay, in 1959. Results are reported from studies on the effects of radiation on sprout inhibition and storage life of potatoes and onions. Other commodities under investigation include guava, sapota, ginger, garlic, kidney beans, and tomatoes. (C.H.)
