DUST-COLLECTION FROM WAELZ-FURNACE GASES IN UNPACKED SCRUBBERS

The performance of an unpacked scrubber in the removal of dust contalning Zn, Pb, and Cd from the off gases of Waelz furnaces was investigated. The scrubber is described in detail. Recirculated clarified solution was sprayed downward concurrently with gas flow. The results suggested that a residence time of 50 to 60 seconds in the scrubber and a spray intensity of 9 to 10 m/sup 3//m/ sup 2/ hr would give cleaning equal to that obtained by cloth filters.
