The salient features of melting point diagrams of the systems SmCl/sub 3/ -Sm, ScCl/sub 3/-Sc, and YCl/sub 3/- Y are discussed. Methods of preparation of the pure dichlorides are given for SmCl/sub 2/, EuCl/sub 2/, and YbCl/sub 2/. Saturated vapor pressure measurements in the systems LaCl/sub 3/- La, PrCl/sub 3/- Pr, NdCl/sub 3/- Nd, YCl/sub 3/- Y, and ScCl/sub 3/- Sc are discussed. Values are given for enthalpy and eutropy for the process of disproportionation of the dichloride into the trichloride and the metal for NdCl/sub 2/ and PrCl/sub 2/, as well as the entropies of formation of NdCl/sub 2/, NdCl/sub 3/, and ScCl/sub 2/.
