Title: K$sup +$-MESON NEUTRON SCATTERING AND FOUNDATIONS OF QUANTUM THEORY. (PARTS I AND II)

In part I, the problem of positive kaons scattering from neutrons is considered using the techniques of Feynman diagrams. It is assumed that the scattering takes place by direct interaction so that the Feynman diagram is analogous to that of Compton scattering. It is also assumed that the intermediate state particle has to be one of the known elementary particles and that all attributes are conserved at the vertices. In non-charge exchange scattering the immediate state particle must be the SIGMA hyperon. The conservation laws restrict the possible Feynman diagrams to the exchange'' diagram. In charge exchange scattering there are 2 possible intermediate state particles, the SIGMA /sup o/ hyperon and the LAMBDA hyperon. If the kaon is a pseudoscalar particle it may interact by either the pseudoscalar or pseudovector coupling. It is assumed that the SIGMA hyperons are pseudoscalarly coupled and the LAMBDA 's through the pseudovector. These assumptions then lead to differential and total cross-sections that are in good agreement with the available experimental data. The differential cross-section for non-exchange is isotropic in the center of mass system, while for charge exchange it is peaked backwards in the center-of-mass system. The total cross- section for nonexchange is approximately constant with energy and rather strongly increasing with energy for charge exchange. In part II, the standard results of quantum mechanics are obtained using familiar mathematics and the postulate: To every infinitesimal canonical transformation of classical mechanics there corresponds an infinitesinal unitary transformation of quantum mechanics such that the generator of the unitary transformation is the same as the generator of the canonical transformation.''
