Title: A screening criterion for angled crack initiation in ferritic pipe steels exhibiting fracture anisotropy

Conference ·
OSTI ID:403219

Owing to the fracture anisotropy, ferritic pipe steels exhibit angled crack initiation and growth even under predominantly Mode I conditions. Based on detailed three-dimensional finite element analyses and experimental data, a viable screening criterion for angled crack initiation in through-wall cracked ferritic pipes subjected to bending is proposed. This criterion offers promise in understanding an angled crack initiation in ferritic pipes.
