Title: Nuclear rainbow in {sup 209}Bi+{sup 136}Xe collisions at E{sub lab}A=28.2 MeV?

Massive projectile-like fragments from the reaction {sup 209}Bi+{sup 136}Xe at E{sub lab}/A= 28.2 MeV were measured in coincidence with lighter charged products and neutrons, detected with a 4{pi} angular coverage. In events accounting for most of the reaction cross section, strong correlations are observed between the deflection angle of the massive fragment on the one hand and various experimental measures of energy dissipation on the Other, indicative of dissipative orbiting processes. The deflection function is seen to sweep twice across the angular range from 3{degrees} to 5.6{degrees} covered by the detector. The trends in the two observed portions of the deflection function suggest that possibly a reversal of the sign of the correlation coefficients occurs around a laboratory angle of {Theta}{sub lab}=2{degrees}, giving rise to a nuclear rainbow phenomenon at these intermediate bombarding energies.
