A Marinelli beaker modified for easier mathematical modelling for self-absorption in environmental radioactivity measurements

To meet the need for measuring environmental radioactivity , especially the uranium and thorium series in soil contexts as well as other diverse matrices, we have developed a modification of a commercially-available Marinelli beaker that can be mathematically modelled for self-absorption. Measured gamma-ray intensities are interpreted through software specifically designed for this cell, running within the SPSSX Package. Examples of typical environmental radioactivity measurements and performance data are given.
