Technetium (Tc) in its isotopic form {sup 99}Tc is generated in high yields from the fission of {sup 235}U and {sup 239}Pu. A significant inventory of {sup 99}Tc remains at the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site, and it is one of the most difficult contaminants to address.
