The effect of carbon content on the Hall-Petch parameter in the cold drawn hypereutectoid steels
- POSCO Technology Research Lab., Pohang (Korea, Republic of). Steel Products and Welding Research Team
While the relationship between the strength and the Hall-Petch parameter in the hypoeutectoid and eutectoid steels has been widely investigated, that in hypereutectoid steels has been paid relatively little attention. Recently, development of hypereutectoid steels manufactured by the cold drawing process has become an important subject in the steel wire industry due to their ultrahigh strength and good drawability. An investigation was conducted to examine the characteristics of the Hall-Petch parameter which would affect the strength of the drawn hypereutectoid steels and, in the present paper, the results obtained from such an investigation were reported and analyzed in terms of the microstructural parameters of pearlite.
