Argonne National Laboratory, with support from the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of Material Management and Minimization, is assisting SHINE Medical Technologies in the development of accelerator-driven production of ⁹⁹Mo using low-enriched uranium (LEU). Technetium-99m (^99mTc), a daughter of ⁹⁹Mo, is a workhorse of nuclear medicine, used in approximately 40,000 medical testing procedures each day just in the U.S.
