Materials Data on Tb2Au by Materials Project
Tb2Au is Cotunnite structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Tb sites. In the first Tb site, Tb is bonded to four equivalent Au atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing TbAu4 tetrahedra. There are a spread of Tb–Au bond distances ranging from 2.93–3.07 Å. In the second Tb site, Tb is bonded in a 3-coordinate geometry to five equivalent Au atoms. There are a spread of Tb–Au bond distances ranging from 2.97–3.65 Å. Au is bonded in a 9-coordinate geometry to nine Tb atoms.
