(Na(H2O)4)4SnSe4 crystallizes in the monoclinic P2_1/m space group. The structure is two-dimensional and consists of two SnSe4 clusters and one Na(H2O)4 sheet oriented in the (0, 0, 1) direction. In each SnSe4 cluster, Sn4+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four Se2- atoms. There are a spread of Sn–Se bond distances ranging from 2.54–2.59 Å. There are three inequivalent Se2- sites. In the first Se2- site, Se2- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one Sn4+ atom. In the second Se2- site, Se2- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one Sn4+ atom. In the third Se2- site, Se2- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one Sn4+ atom. In the Na(H2O)4 sheet, there are three inequivalent Na1+ sites. In the first Na1+ site, Na1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form corner-sharing NaO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 55°. There are a spread of Na–O bond distances ranging from 2.33–2.46 Å. In the second Na1+ site, Na1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form edge-sharing NaO6 octahedra. There are a spread of Na–O bond distances ranging from 2.31–2.48 Å. In the third Na1+ site, Na1+ is bonded to six O2- atoms to form a mixture of corner and edge-sharing NaO6 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 55°. There are a spread of Na–O bond distances ranging from 2.33–2.47 Å. There are eighteen inequivalent H1+ sites. In the first H1+ site, H1+ is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one O2- atom. The H–O bond length is 0.99 Å. In the second H1+ site, H1+ is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one O2- atom.
