This document describes byproduct disposal and utilization activities for the CT-121 FGD Demonstration at Georgia Power Company`s Plant Yates -- a DOE Clean Coal Project. These byproduct materials -- gypsum and a ash/gypsum blend -- were stored by hydraulic deposition or {open_quotes}stacking{close_quotes}, a technique widely used to handle byproduct gypsum produced in the phosphate fertilizer Industry. Several uses have been considered where this material replaces mined gypsum at much lower cost while maintaining acceptable technical performance. These applications include agricultural soil amendment as well as wallboard and cement manufacturing. The manufacturing uses involve processing gypsum through a horizontal belt vacuum filter to lower chloride and moisture levels to meet raw material specifications of the manufacturers. At this point substantial results are available for the agricultural application, while wallboard and cement evaluations have been planned but are not yet underway pending approval of a portion of funding.
