Antiproton-nuclei annihilation in the momentum range 0.70-2.50 GeV/c
- Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Moscow (Russian Federation)
The results of the measurements of the antiproton annihilation cross sections on the nuclei Be, C, Al, Fe, Cu, Cd, and Pb at the momentum range 0.70-2.50 GeV/c are presented. The A-dependence of the cross sections is described by the formula {sigma}{sub 0}A{sup {alpha}}. The behavior of the parameters {sigma}{sub 0} and {alpha} does not agree with optical model in the Glauber approach. It is suggested that such a behavior is a result of the Coulomb influence on the annihilation processes at the low momenta. The description of cross sections using formula {sigma} = A{sup 2/3}(a{sub 0} + a{sub 1}Z + a{sub 2}Z{sup 2}) is made and the parameters a{sub 0}, a{sub 1} are evaluated. In the framework of the high-energy approach, the formula for the absorption cross section is derived. This formula takes into account the influence of the Coulomb potential and the real part of the nuclear potential on the absorption cross section. A comparison with the experimental results is made in the framework of the Glauber optical model. The agreement is not good. 6 refs., 6 figs., 1 tab.
