Uranium industry of the People`s Republic of China
China has a well-developed uranium industry capable of supporting the nation`s ambitious domestic nuclear program. China`s geology is diverse and offers a good potential for uranium deposits. A large number of deposits have been found to date; most are small and of low to moderate grade, but the combined production capability is substantial. China is the world`s third largest country, with an area of approximately 9.6 million square kilometers (3.7 million square miles), which is almost as large as Canada, and slightly larger than the USA. Currently, China has several nuclear power plants under construction and an aggressive plan for building future reactors, but no reactors have yet reached commercial operation. For this reason, China can make available for export to the world market about three million pounds equivalent U{sub 3}O{sub 8} annually.
