Title: Alpha particle diagnostics and physics studies. Progress report for the period February 1, 1997 through October 29, 1997

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:10108908

The Pellet Charge Exchange Diagnostic (PCX) has played a significant role in the success of the DT experiments on TFTR, allowing a wide variety of important alpha particle physics issues to be addressed. As the only diagnostic of energetic (1 to 3.5 MeV) confined alpha particles on TFTR, PCX continued to play an important role in the 1997 DT experiments on TFTR, providing important information on the following additional alpha physics issues: confinement and diffusion of alphas in the plasma core; TAE modes; stochastic ripple effects; alpha density profiles in reversed shear discharges; diagnostic modifications; prospects for PCX on ITER; and possible JET experiments.
